Question about supercharged car

3640 Views 58 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  lmanthegreat
Back of my car sometimes goes side to side when i accelerate in a straight line. It is supercharged, but what can i do to prevent this without losing any speed or HP other than feathering in the gas pedal.

Thanks,

There isn't any solution to your problem outside of driving around with slicks or drag radials which IMO is not a good thing, that's all part of having a supercharger.

oh ok i thought there were some kind of anti roll bars or traction bars or better suspension ?

Thank You.
There are probably some things you could do to make your car hook up better but for a car driven on the street, probably minimal return. Stiffer bushing would be the first thing that come to mind.
with all these factory cars coming out with superchargers installed, ZL1, Tesla, F type jaguars, hellcat , these cars i assume are street tires, there just has to be something to prevent whip lash on straight road when accelerating.

I really don't want to get drag radials for a daily drive to work. lol
you just need to find the correct ankle to wheel ratio!!!

The best solution I can think of is to take it off an let me have it that would solve your problem of going side to side and my problem of not having a supercharger lol

On a poor road surface soaked with oil from other leaking cars or a wet/damp road....nothing is going to help. On good road surfaces a getrag rear-end and the widest softest tires will help alot. Most auto RT's have an open rear-end. Tire tread contact area should not exceed rim width and the wider you can get safely under your car the better. The tire rubber hardness/softness is a number rated thing but the softer the rubber...the faster you will be buying more...but they will "hook" better.

im willing to sell it for around 3- 3500 since i want a bigger blower.
Get better tires, simple as that. I had the same problem in my Nova when I put the new heads/cam/intake/carb on it a few years ago. On street tires it would get sideways going 40mph. I put a set of Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials on the back and no more getting sideways while rolling down the road. It'll still roast them from a dead stop when cold but it's much safer on the road now while moving.

If your car is a daily driver, then you do not want drag radials on the back because they suck in the rain. Just get the stickiest street tire you can if that's the case. I've heard Nitto makes some decent street/sticky tires.

If it's just a fun weekend nice weather type car, put some drag radials on it and be done with it. If you don't put a ton of miles on the car and it only sees dry pavement on nice days you're better off.

part of the reason it fish tales other than the obvious power, it is not a posi rear end. when the wheels do not spin at the same speed it will do that. even the posi getrags will fish tale some as they are not perfectly aligned. They day you change rear ends to like a 8.8 you can get a locker that will fix this. The car will still spin with street tires buy will track straighter.

I already have 275 mickey thompson street radials and its still doing it. lol

Phil,

Actually the 2013 classics came with POSI rear and both my tires spin same time, that was part of the options i got.
Do you have 20" rims on your car? I know the lower profile tires seem to have more issues hooking up due to having less sidewall. Maybe for the track try some 17" rims with some real slicks. That should get you to hook up good.

Otherwise on the street it sounds like you're doing the best you can. The car just makes a lot of power.

What psi do you run in your tires in the rear? I run mine at 17-19 psi at the track and about 24-25 psi on the street. Mine are on 15" rims though so more sidewall to work with.

20 x 8 factory rims but i replaced them with 20x10 to get the MTs tires. 29 PSI rear on the street with my front at 42

They spin at the same time, not at the same speed. That is what causes the fishtail one spinning faster than the other. This is fixed during a rear end up grade.
With slicks at the track you should just hook and go.

Can you run a locker on the street? Or maybe I'm confusing that with a spool? I have a posi rear end in my Nova and Challenger and they both tend to slide a little to right when I do burnouts. But when I take off the car hooks up and goes straight. I'm not making massive power though either. My cousin's 9 second Mustang just has a 3.23 posi rear end with a trans brake and it leaves hard and straight though.

This is the standard open ended 3.06 rear, as you can see it has " Made in Germany" with a Mercedes Benz lo go.
The true Getrag rear has ribs all over it and isnt smooth like the open rear.
