Hi,

I went to the track last night and was able to get 3 runs in. The only mods I have done so far is the Volant CAI, Zoomers Exhaust, and the Racing Tune from HEMI Fever. So the first run I did was without sport mode turned on and Traction control on. First time was 13.7. Second run I did was with Sport Mode on and Traction control on. The time was 13.8. I noticed that the car shifted through faster it seemed. On the third run, I kept the settings the same as the second. This time when I got up to about 80 I felt the back end wiggle out on me and the rpm went up kind of like I down shifted or a limiter kicked in. Not sure what it was. It scared the crap out of me so I parked it and looked it over. I didn't see anything physically wrong with the car. No overheating, nothing leaking, tire pressure was good. After I felt good to drive it home I kept sport mode turned off and drove it pretty hard home to see if I could reproduce the symptom. Even after I turned sport mode back on I could replicate what happened to me on the track. What does Sport Mode do exactly?

Thanks

Jorge

I believe sport mode firms up the shifts, holds the gears longer before shifting, possibly changes some spark timing/fuel settings slightly, possibly reduces torque management slightly, and I thought on these cars it changed the suspension settings as well?

What was your 60ft time? 13's is good for an R/T. I would bet if you put some drag radials on the back you'd get an even lower ET, maybe low/mid 13's, etc.

On R/T's the Spot Mode only adjusts the tranny shifts....no adaptive suspension on R/T's. I always keep my Sport Mode off going down the track.....it would be on if I had drag radials or slicks.

Not sure on the R/T but with my SRT Core if I put it in sport mode I can hold gear as long as I want. Of course it will bounce off the rev limiter if I hold it too long. For drag racing I generally turn traction control all the way off and put it in sport mode, I then hold gear manually to what I feel is the best shift point.

I should add here that when I had my R/T my best quarter mile times with street tires came with the traction control left on and just put the car in drive and allow it to shift. With drag radials my best times came with the TC turned off and by making various tune adjustments.

On the RT, it firms up the shifts and locks the torque converter up in 2nd instead of 3rd. If you use sports and manual(paddle/slap shift) then it will hold gear as long as you want it too

I've got a Scat Pack with the 6 speed that is completely stock. Using the launch control I turned 12.7 secs at Bristol Raceway in bad air (2000 feet elevation) after about 8 runs of practice. I set the launch control a 3750, floor the gas peddle and pop the clutch. Works like a charm. Cross the finish line in 3rd gear at about 112 MPH.

The sport mode I have in Charger which I assume is the same will allow me to shift manually as high as 5700 RPMs. If its just in sport it shifts at 5450 RPMS. I have the 5 speed with the 3.06's so it benefited me to rev out the gears. With the 8 speed might as well just keep it in D as first gear redlines at like 33-35 MPH. probably could not time that shift well enough to make it worth it. Not to mention it shifts into 3rd at 60 and traps in 5th gear. timing 4 shifts perfect is not likely. probably just put it in sport and let it shift for ya with how close the gears are together.
