Ok folks - I need a hand. Its time for emissions testing for me in MD. In MD they do an OBD II port test to check for I/M monitors "ready" and "ok" status plus for any error codes.

Because we have been playing with the tuning on my new motor, I ran several complete cold-hot-cold OBD II drive cycles to try and reset all of the monitors after I loaded my last tune in. I have no error codes and none pending. All of my I/M monitors show up as either OK, N/A or pass, except one - the EGR Monitor. This shows as "inc" which I take to mean incomplete. The "inc" status will cause me to fail the test.

Any advice on what I can do to get this reset and/or what I need to do/look at if something is hung up? Appreciate any assistance - thanks!

I think prior to 2009 had the valve and tube. When I looked it up in the '09 service manual the only one I saw with EGR was the 3.5. Not sure if they did away with it or if it's incorporated some kind of way but I'm not aware of any connection between the exhaust & intake.

Yeah - I did some research and it turns out you all are right. After 2009 when Dodge with to VVT configurations they did away with EGRs on VVT motors. So my system isn't supposed to have one. So how the heck do I get it through MD emissions when their systems are looking for its presence and find the INC code. I feel like I am in a catch-22 cause I don't want to re-flash the PCM b/c it will blow away my custom tune.

Any ideas or do I have to throw myself on the mercy of the emissions gods in supplication...

Surly the emission gods know there is no EGR on your car and if not, you'll just have to educate them of the fact.

I found out the hard way on Saturday when the gave me a "no pass but no fail" condition on this. They told me to drive it around for a week to clear all the resets however they didn't tell which I/M was not ready. When I got home and put a scanner on it is when I saw it was EGR. I will have to go down and talk to them but I suspect they will not likely take my word for it that my Challenger doesn't need an EGR - I wonder if there is any technical resource I can bring with me as back-up.

Oh well - just getting myself ready for an emission adventure - no doubt it will be a catch-22 affair.....

J,

I thought about that too. So after the emissions visit, I loaded a new tune which required resetting. So I ran 5 complete OBD II cold-hot-cold cycles (the complete 12 minute regimen) and all the monitors reset by the 3rd cycle, except for EGR. So after 5 complete cycles I don't think anymore changes are coming. My sneaky suspicion is there is a SW update I never got that I cant use now b/c of the custom tune. Will probably have to spend enough money that I qualify for a report waiver (bummer).

Send Hemifever a pm, he may can shed some light on what you got going on.

I got to get through my cycles this week as I'm taking mine in for inspection sometime next week. I don't expect any issues but I do have the high flow cats but we put the extenders on the rear O2 sensors to keep from throwing codes.

Turns out the V8 VVT motors don't have EGRs as mentioned elsewhere in the thread. My emissions sticker on the engine bay confirms that. Had a local shop check the code and confirm. it was the computer trying to find the EGR that triggered the mess. Asked them to write up the fact there is no EGR in the car so the code should be ignored. and the happily did so. Of course emissions folks weren't buying it. They insisted I go back to Dodge and re-flash the computer. Which of course is going to totally hose up my custom tune - without which my custom motor wont run. Sounds like a Catch-22. I will have HHP contact Diablo and see if they can send a patch to my tune which puts the EGR setting into N/A mode so it wont trigger the emissions machines. What a PITA....

Joe - any word on yours???
