Has anyone just removed the resonators in the middle of the exhaust pipes on the 3.6?

OR just the mufflers at the tail end of the pipes for better sound?

I stopped by my local MIDAS shop and they disconnected ONE resonator to give me an idea of how loud it would be and it didn't sound bad. It would be louder with BOTH resonators cut out.
He said this would cost me only $200.00.
I think $200 is too much I'd look around.

So has anyone tried this instead of a full cat back exhaust or changing mufflers??

The resonators are out by the bumper .Big suitcase looking things. The little round things under the seats are the mufflers. To answer your question yes it's been done a lot . Some like the way it sounds some of us think it's too much like a ricer.

According to this MIDAS shop manager Dodge is assbackwards.

The mufflers are in the middle and the resonators are at the bumper, says he knows exhausts been doing this for 30 years, whatever......I just want to know what it sounds like and if there's too much drone in the cabin.

I suggest you read what I posted the "some like it some dont" part. Who is to say how much drone is too much for you? I may think any is too much the next guy may like having his teeth vibrated. The best thing for you to do is just cut them off and see what you think for yourself.

Yeah you're right.

Found a independent shop to remove the mid mufflers tomorrow for $100.00.
He said he'll leave a couple inches of pipe in front and behind the mufflers in case I decide I don't like the sound and he'll put em back on.

No disrespect to all you forum members but I have to say this.

Well I had the Resonaters in the middle of the exhaust deleted (yes resonators not mufflers in the middle)
and the sound was just a bit louder than stock kind of disappointed but better than being TOO loud.

Now if I deleted the "mufflers" in the middle like this site calls them it would be a LOT louder but it's NOT.
Because I deleted the resonators. This only makes sense.

The "suitcases" at the end of the pipe by the bumper are the chambered mufflers and they're still on, that's why it's not very loud. Mufflers "muffle" sound and it's not very loud because the "mufflers" at the rear bumper are still on.

If you want a MILD sound increase delete the resonators in the middle, if you want more aggressive louder sound delete the mufflers at the tail end, BUT many may feel this makes it TOO loud!

Hate to tell you but those are resonators behind the rear tires.

Well the "resonators" act like mufflers and make it very quiet....the Mid pipe "resonators" as you call them do NOTHING for sound.

After removing them there is NO difference in cabin sound and if they were mufflers there should be and the exhaust note should be MUCH louder, but it's not.

BTW....my exhaust on the V6 does NOT look like that diagram.
I have (had)long slim cans in the middle not rectangle shaped like that diagram shows.
ALSO......your diagram shows #4 and calls it a MUFFLER AND resonator assembly so go figure??

It's a generic drawing from the 09 service manual but it lists what Dodge calls the various exhaust parts.

The reason it's called that assembly is that everything from the mid-pipes back, mufflers & drivers (passenger?) side resonator is one piece, the passenger (drivers?) side resonator/pipe is separate.

Like i said it doesn't matter what you call them, the mid cans didn't "muffle" much noise at all because when removed it's not real loud.
So the REAR "suitcases' #9 ACT AS MUFFLERS obviously because resonators don't muffle sound that much, they smooth out the droan.

Heck maybe they act as BOTH, all I know is the mid cans I removed didn't make the car much louder like removing mufflers would do.
