Well, IMO it is an SRT, technically. SRT stands for Street and Racing Technology. These are applied to this car. It just doesn't come with all the fancy stuff. It should have, however, came badged simply as a ScatPack. There are three Challengers "powered" by SRT, two of which are badged as such on the outside. They are both badged that way but are not the same cars. The ScatPack is badged as such under the hood, but is, also, not the same. I assume the ScatPacks are RT's in the cabin and SRT's everywhere else. But either place they are ScatPacks. That's my opinion.
That said, the ScatPacks are badged as an RT. So I would tell people, its an RT powered by an SRT power plant. But again, that's just what I would do or say. Funny thing is, there really isn't a whole lot of wrong answers here.

This is an interesting thread. For the non-shaker, they still call it the R/T Scat Pack - yet for the shaker its the "392 HEMI (R) Scat Pack Shaker"
I have had to explain a number of times, and since I enjoy talking about my car, I explain the differences between mine and the SRT. I tell them its almost an SRT, as the car has the driveline of an SRT but not some of the higher end performance parts (suspension, brakes). If they glaze over, then I know they aren't car people, but most are interested enough and understand what I am saying.

Not sure if it is the same in the states, but I explain the reason I got the scat pack was the better warranty on the same drivetrain as an SRT. I think that is a real advantage to the car.

I am soo confused by all these responses... It is like some of the Viper owners I have run into who want nothing to do with us "lowely Dodge owners". If for some ungodly reason if you think that owning an SRT puts you in some type of class above someone who owns an SE, SXT I think you are looking at life in a totally messed up way. I am alos getting the vibe with some SP folks wanting to get away from what theyt consider is a lowely RT badge. I guess growing up the the 70's and owning Road Runners, RT Challengers, Ralley Chargers and small block Dusters I look at this through a much different persepective. I had a totally built up Duster that I smoked the baddest 454 Chevy in a street race one night. It was my night that night. At the end of the day I guess I have to ask WHY ? Why does it matter that your SP started life as an RT? I just don't get it?
I don't think it matters how the car started out. The original concern was how to explain the car you have in simple terms. I think we are all on here for the love of cars - I don't think any of us care whether you drive an SXT or a Hellcat - but for those that ask you about your car it is a point of pride. I am proud to own a scat pack, its an awesome car, but I am not here to 1 up anyone. I do want to educate others though, because the challenger range is so large not everyone understands it.

I am new to the Challenger, I just bought my 2016 Scat Pack at the end of December. However, there was a paper around the drivers visor that explained a few things on the car. The first thing it said was "this vehicle is a part of the SRT family" and is equipped with the same options, such as the Super Track Pack feature. When I push the STP button, the screen on the dash goes to the driver modes and other pages that you get on the SRT.
So in the words of Dodge, the Scat Pack is in the SRT family. That is the best explanation I can give. :)

Well said!

In my eyes it's for the people that want the power & performance of the 392 engine without breaking the bank. Either that or for people that want to relive the "Scat Pack Heritage".
I simply refer to the 392 as SRT powered cars.
It seems on the Chargers there more notions that it's a 392 powered car: Bee in grill, red Brembos, Mesh Grill, Different front end...
The Challenger R/T & Scat are a bit harder to distinguish from the untrained eye.

I've had the same concerns, still going back and forth if I actually want to cancel my order and get an SRT. Regardless if I choose to take delivery of the SPS I'll be removing the R/T badge and hopefully replace it with the scat back emblem. I'll simple tell people its a scat pack, if they don't know what that is they prob drive a ford. ;-)
" I'll simple tell people its a scat pack, if they don't know what that is they prob drive a ford. ;-)" Hilarious! I'm thinking of doing the same thing - taking the R/t badge off the grille and replacing it with the Scat Pack badge. My SP isn't here yet. Do you know if the R/T badge will come off easily? Does the Scat Pack badge attach to the grille the same way?

Here is from the 2016 Scat Pack and SRT window stickers. Exactly the same as on the SRT....."
Brembo® 4-Piston High-Performance Brakes "SRT® Tuned Bilstein® 3-Mode High Perform Suspension"
2015 Scat Pack did not have it. 2016 does.
On the SRT and Hellcat it is COMPETITIVE suspension. Mag adjustable shocks. Not the same as Scat Pack.

To me, this is the same as people -- with hellcats -- who put the SRT emblem with the Hellcat logo on their grille.

Can't have just the SRT logo because you might get confused with a lowly SRT 392. Haha. GET THAT REGULAR SRT EMBLEM OUTTA HERE! :D

I added the 6.4L Hemi badge to my SRT for grins. You guys could do that or add a 392 Hemi badge for clarification. I would have jumped on a Scat in a heart beat but couldn't do without the Track Mode, bigger tires/brakes and the AAR 'Cuda inspired hood scoop. You have to check out the Track Mode sometime. Really adds some attitude and stability.

Wham I finish my chassis and suspension upgrade and put on 275's my scat pack will be more formidable that the SRT's track mode. And if you ask why I just didn't get a SRT? Well, I wanted a Shaker Hood. See you at the track ArchGE. Although you will have bigger brakes.

Can you message me your ideas for those upgrades, if you have any yet? I'm interested.

I am soooo happy to hear you guys have finally gotten this whole matter settled...
