Now that I have new snows and wheels, the weather has been above freezing around here, and no snow. I do want to wait till it gets colder right? I heard snows can wear out fast in normal temps
I would not worry. I was totally shocked and still am with the wear on my snows. I have a set from Tire Rack that are Firestone Winterforce. I put them on Nov 2012 and ran them until March 2014 (yes!) continuously through the summer of 2013 and then put them on again this fall. They aren't even half worn out though a little cupped in places. I had health problems in spring and summer 2013 and could not get them changed out so I left them on. I don;t know why they wear so well. However, they are NOISY especially at about 50mph. It's a complicated story because I started with them on my '12 R/T in November 2012, moved them to my '13 R/T in November 2013, took them off the '13 R/T in March 2014, put them back on the '13 R/T in September 2014 (only because I cut down a summer tire and did not want to spend for summer tires then) and then took them off when I got the '15 R/T last weekend. They are sitting in the garage right now. I am debating whether to put them on the new '15 R/T or not. I'm trying to see if I can get through the winter without it this time. Winters here can be from horrible last year to almost nothing some years. It's a crap shoot so there is at least a reasonable chance to get by without them. I'm tired of messing with it. Main point is that the snows wore very well even driving through the heat of summer.
My options are go to all seasons or get the heck out of here which I AM DOING in 2.5 years - moving to the warmth of SC. Then I will get rid of the snows for good.
Winter tires become effective below 45 degrees, if above 45 they will wear faster they are a softer rubber and in warmer temp. will wear quicker. Generally speaking they should last you about 4 years in the right conditions.
I have the winter force tires and yes they wear very well , the last set I got 6 seasons out of them,
I would not worry about the wear on dry streets,it has only snowed here once , and it has been very dry and warm since, and although they are a little noisey ,I really like them when it does get icy and snowy,
it is a long winter, be patient it will snow and you will need them
