My Challenger did not come with the spare tire kit so I tried to purchase one at the dealer and to my surprise you can only get the kit if you order it with the car! Does anyone know for certain if a kit from a RWD Challenger will fit the GT?

I don't know I will look over my temp spare that I ordered with my GT I know the jack will work on all Challengers. The offset on the GT wheels is 55mm and the offset on the Scat Pack 20" wheels is 25.5mm and I have run the Scat Pack wheels on my GT all summer. So I think the spare wheel from the SXT or an R/T should fit the GT.

I sourced the jack and hold down bolt and wing nuts from the junkyard out of a Magnum wagon for $10.00 and bought a 18x4 spare out of a 300 off Ebay for $90.00. everything works great and bolts down as factory. the only issue was the jack wrench is 21mm, and the Lug nuts are 22mm. so I just got a socket from the parts store and put it on an old breaker bar, wrapped it in a rag under the spare, no rattles, and it's longer than the stamped steel wrench they use as the lug wrench/jack wrench.:D

You can order a spare tire kit that will fit your trim level at Www.factorychryslerparts.com.
Though I too am looking to carry a spare. Am looking into it now. What I've descovered is that a donut tire maybe not the best way to go. A donut on the rear could cause damage to the rear axle or differential cause of the tire size defferences.
I'm leaning toward buying a used or replica rim and mounting the correct tire. Yes I know it takes up more room. Since it's only 2 of us she'll have to pack less, hehe.

I told the wife I really kneed those front skinnies for the race track as they will double as a spare without taking up much room , every body wins . ;):D

Yes I won't drive my GT no the compact spare that it comes with more than 15 miles or so. If I am going out of town I put one of the full size wheels off my Scat Pack since I put Hurst wheels with new tires I have 4 full size spare tires for long road trips. I loose some trunk space but the Challenger has enough to spare.

If you could find a part number that would be most helpful! Thanks.

Agreed I am looking for something I can throw on the car to get it off the parkway if need be. I drive to work on a state parkway and if I need a tow I have to wait for a state authorized tow company to come which can take hours.

I'll look for a part number on the temp spare and post it if I find one.

I went to the dealer yesterday and inquired about the spare tire/AWD dilemma and was told that you should not run a compact spare on the GT. Being that I do not want to jeapardize my warranty I believe the only course of action would be to only use the GT specific spare tire. If anyone has one I would be curious as to the diameter of the GT spare vs the tire/rim on the car as this seems like a contradiction "We nave a compact spare for the GT but you can't use it"
Thank you all for the information!

I have the factory installed compact spare and it is much smaller diameter than the full size tires. Now if the dealers say don't use the compact spare I might as well get a refund for the spare and keep the jack and lug wrench and just carry one of my full sized wheels off my Scat Pack full time.

When I bought new tires, I had the best of the old ones put on one of the oem rims ( I kept them when I bought the new Boss rims) and made that my full size spare. I don't care for that stupid donut spare when I'm on the highway and I need a spare, I feel a lot safer on a full size. In the city no biggie with the donut, it will get me home till I fix my spare or replace the tire(s).

I pulled the spare out and found 2 numbers on it the first is 046221 18"x4" and the second witch I think is the part number is 04895689AA it also has stamped in the inside of the rim FUMAGALLI F 1989 so I think it is the same temp spare the Challengers Chargers and 300s have been using since they started making them.

Mine didn’t come with the spare, just the repair kit. I figure with road side assistance I am just not going to worry about it and use a flat bed if needed.

OK so I chatted with Dodge last night and after chatting with two different people I still do not have an answer as to why some of the GT's came with a spare and some did not, and whether or not a compact spare could be used on an AWD vehicle. They informed me that they have "limited parts information" and the selling dealer would be my best source of information. Can't make this stuff up.....

Solved my spare tire problem. I went with a more costly solution which I'll detail. If I had gone with the donut option it would of cost me S317 plus shipping, taxes and fees. This would of fit in my spare tire compartment going this route. The problem with this for me was the potential damage caused by driving on a donut. I opted to do a full size spare, which I ordered through my tire store.
    Pzero 275/40/R20. 180.00
    Replica rim. 190.00
    TPM. 45.00
    Balancing & fees. 32.00
    Total. 457.00
    With taxes. 491.00
Draw back to this route is loss of trunk space and extra weight. The positive are safer and more reliable operation if I should have a flat. Hopes this helps those looking into the same problem.
