If anyone else has had that annoying squeak from the steering column where it passes through the firewall, I came up with an easy fix. I did the usual lube of the bushing/rubber boot, under the hood, but still had noise. I was able to reach the inside part by taping a section of fish tank tubing to the end of an oiler, and fishing it through the under dash panel/next to the brake pedal arm, and down in to where the column passes through the firewall. One squirt of oil and it and the noise is gone. Even better, I didn't have to fiddle with removing any dash panels.
