The weather was sort of ok around the homestead so I thought to take the car out and see about some miles until I had to put the car up for the winter. Of course with the cold air she was purring like a kitten. No horsing around, just a run out to the dentist and then over to buy a couple of tools, take Momma to dinner and home. What a day. Running about 40, car all warmed all up, all good, she started making a weird noise, running rough and erratic and started stalling. Being only a mile of so from home I threw a quick U got about 1/4 and car quit. Threw the clutch in and coated the rest of the way (it's a gentle downhill) Car in the garage, tried to start it and got it to start, saw the vacuum modulator on the maggie moving the intake flap like a machine gun, at the same time I hear a godawful noise and I quickly cut the car off. Anyway, a long story but I am sick to my stomach, mad as all hell, and flat just fell like burning this bitch to the ground. Whew, ok, better. Anyway, my son took the plugs out on passenger side, and the valve cover and it only confirmed what I knew. Mid week I will pull the head and see what more bad freaking news is in store for me.

Sorry to hear this. Hope it isn't what I think it is.

To me, the symptoms indicate a valve leak/failure, but valves don't just immediately fail, there should have been a CEL and a P code (?)

In any event, I'm certainly sorry this happened.

It was strange, no P or CEL codes at all. I tossed the Trinity on it, no codes, and the car isn't showing any at all. In the pick are both plugs for cylinder #3, the valve spring, these are Patriot Performance springs, and lastly the retainer, in it is the top of the valve stem, and the keepers all one nice little button. I have never seen a valve snap like that before. Too weird. Not that it makes any difference but it is the exhaust valve so there was a whole bunch of metal where it should not have been. I am dreading taking the head off. I can see carnage down the plug openings.

I can't tell from your profile, but what year is your car? How many miles on it?

Hmmm have to fix my profile. again! I have a 2009 HO SRT8. Had the car basically rebuilt in 2011/2012. Practically every area of the car had work done. From new material on seats, door panels and such inside, built engine, suspension, overall paint, and soon. I got the car new October 28 2008. as of now has 12678 miles. No, not a garage queen or trailer queen, it just is my play toy. I take it oiut and drive when the weather is nice, to car shows, to race tracks etc. I roll her through some 1/8, 1/4, and autorcross, my son takes her and runs 1/4's, plus I thrash the snot out of her every chance I get. But being that most everything is not far, just don't rack up too many miles, plus while it was being overhauled (almost a year)no miles at all.
