Title Status: Rebuilt says it all.....

Google Title Status Rebuilt:
"It means that for some reasons this vehicle has been unregistered and the title has been marked as: none drivable! So the insured owner will get paid by the insurance. The vehicle then will make its way to copart (mostly) auction and somebody else will buy it and repair it! Once repaired, you apply to the DMV that this car is repaired so you do some inspections on it (depending on the damage) and you rebuild the title. So you get a rebuilt title or Salvage title."
Unless you can handle problems down the road, run away and don't look back.....

Things to Know about a Rebuilt Car Title

What is a Rebuilt Car Title?
Usually, to get a rebuilt car title, a car has gone through some event that caused extensive damage, and has been rebuilt to a drivable state. A rebuilt title, also known as a salvage title or reconstructed title, is used to inform the consumer of a vehicle's history. Rules may vary from state to state, but once a car has been titled as "salvage," it will appear in a history report as such; even if the car is titled in different states. A rebuilt title significantly reduces the value of a used car, and there are two primary ways a car can be given a salvage title.

Insurance Total Loss
An Insurance total loss can cover accidents, natural disasters and theft. This occurs when the insurance company deems that the repairs to the vehicle are not economically practical. For instance, if the blue book value of a vehicle is $12,000, and the repair estimates are $10,500, the insurance company may pay the claimant blue book value rather than having the car repaired. In matters of theft, a salvage title may be issued for a vehicle that is recovered after a claim has been paid, even though damage may be minimal.

Impounded and Seized Vehicles
Sometimes seized, impounded or unclaimed vehicles may be given a salvage title in order to be sold to junk yards, repair shops or auction houses. In these cases vehicle damage, unpaid repairs or storage fees may exceed the value of the car. The vehicles are sold as salvage to recoup some of the costs. Titling the car salvage significantly reduces the price of the car.

Buying a Car with a Rebuilt Title
Buying a car with a rebuilt title should be considered carefully. Some states require minimal inspections to declare a rebuilt car road-worthy, while others are more thorough. Check with the local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for questions regarding these inspections. It is highly recommended that any rebuilt car be inspected by a certified mechanic and even a reputable body shop.

I've seen a few R/T's with low miles for this price or less on Craigslist in my area, but like this one, had a rebuilt title. They usually sit around forever, most people don't want to deal with a car like that.

I'm with Dodgeman1, I'd rather spend a little more and get a nice clean well maintained one that wasn't totaled or repaired with unknown workmanship/parts, etc.

I don't know the specifics of this car so of course be very careful. Having said that, I've purchased 2 cars with salvage titles and got very good deals. The first one was a Pontiac Bonneville which was in a flood/hurricane from Florida. The car ran fine and the only problem was when I went to check on the spare tire there was still water in the depression in the trunk which held the tire!
The second car came from a dealership (new cars and used) and is a '06 Ford Escape. It now has 160k miles and runs great with only the usual age/mileage related repairs done over the past few years. So...you CAN get a good deal on a salvaged title but have the car checked by a mechanic.

When you see a great deal especially on craigslist , it is usually too good to be true, now you have to be more careful than ever... just recently the couple from Georgia that got killed by a craigslist poster... don't go alone when ever possible.

We have a guy in my jail that just got sentenced to 60 years for killing a guy when he showed up to buy a car from him. Google gregory lewis murder. It is weird cause the only priors he had were for driving on suspended. Since then our sherrif has made all police stations a place to meet for online deals. Its a great idea that will help stop scams when you tell the other party to meet you at the police station

When I bought a beater car last year, I followed the same process for every seller I met with. Cash was on-hand, but hidden in my Jeep. I always sent an email to my nephew with all of the seller's contact information, including a copy of the Craigslist ad, and where and when we were meeting. I then made it a point to always meet the seller at a public place like a Starbucks. When I finally settled on my 2002 Subaru Outback, I asked the seller to follow me to the nearest AAA to complete the transaction.

But I like the police station idea too!
