Yesterday was a sixty degree day on December 10th! So I decided to take a few pictures that I couldn't take this summer. I did a little driving in a pasture to get to these photos. This summer I know I would have gotten stuck!

These first two are an old farmstead. You can see the old chicken coop still standing behind the house. I would guess this house was built in the '20's, possibly in the '30's. There were many more smaller farms in the past, and most have ended up like this.

I went down the road not more that a couple of miles and another old farmstead with an old Big Bud tractor was just begging to be photographed. This was a little more pasture driving, but was sure fun on such a beautiful day!
I approached the big tractor with caution, it did out weigh the Challenger a little.

The Big Bud allowed me to move up and pose beside her and then I starting feeling very small compared to her. Driving off, I reflected on things of the past on the farm.

When I pass by the old abandoned farm houses in my neck of the woods I often wonder about the folks who lived, worked and passed on at those properties....
....We were over at my wife's Grandparent's house one day last year looking through photo albums and her Grandfather showed us pictures of the farmstead he grew up on. It turns out it's the house directly west of mine (a few blocks down the road)!! The house sure looks different now than it did in the 1930's but it's still a working farm. Vicki scanned the photos and gave them to the farmer that currently lives there. They bought the farm in 1974.

That was very nice of Vicki to do that. It is great that we now can scan old photos to pass them on to friends and family. Very nice story Jon.

Thank you Susie! It was 60 yesterday, 67 today, and tomorrow I think around 65 for the forecast. I am going to get all that shopping done before the cold hits again! I think you would like South Dakota about now!
