Today marks the Third Anniversary of the day I bought my 2010 Challenger R/T Classic B5 Blue 6 Speed. It was a Saturday morning and I had an appointment 139 miles away from home to look at and test drive this vehicle I had found on Cars.com. As I got into my 2007 Magnum SXT at 6:30 in the morning, I only knew that if the numbers were right and the Challenger was right, I may be coming home with a car I had lusted after since it was reintroduced. When I got to the dealer, I was quickly shown the Challenger. I was slightly disappointed with it being dusty, but none the less excited, as even dusty, it stole my heart. I opened the doors, scoured the interior. I opened the hood and looked over the engine bay and fluids carefully. The trunk was inspected along with the body(where I found a small ding on the right side, which didn't really bother me), I told the salesman, "OK, let's get it up on a lift.". He was surprised by that, but then he realized that I wasn't a pushover and this wasn't my first rodeo. After looking at the underside for leaks and grime and using a flashlight(my standard car buying tool) to check the brakes and the undercarriage, I told him I was ready for a test drive. After buckling in and testing the feel of the clutch and brakes, we were off. We went down the street and into unfamiliar roads for me. I asked him for a lightly traveled road so I could stretch her legs. Imagine his surprise when I slowed down, shifted into second, put the pedal on the floor, and grabbed a perfect third and then fourth gears. We put about 20 miles on the test drive and went back to the lot. He said "can we make a deal on the car?". I told him to clean it up, get the numbers on both the Challenger and my tradein Magnum and then we would talk.
After 45 minutes the Challenger was gleaming and I had to hide my excitement. I was happy with the number on the Challenger, but felt like they were lowballing me on my Magnum. I told them to sharpen their pencil on it as it wasn't your average trade in. After four tries, they had a number I could live with, so I turned over my title and signed the papers. I was the owner of a beautiful 2010 B5 Blue Challenger R/T Classic!
It was 12:05. As I got out on the interstate to begin my drive home, my phone rang. It was Hilda. She asked where I was, and what color was the car I was driving. I told her I would be home in a couple hours and she would just have to wait until then.
And that, Folks, is the start of an incredible journey! I joined ChallengerForumZ two days later and haven't looked back!
