Anyone have experience upgrading this to a 3000 stall? My mod list is as follows:

2008 SRT, 595 rwhp

Kenne Bell 2.8L SC with 8lbs boost
Blower Cam (Comp)
Stage 2 Valve body
Mopar Shift Module
Long tubes
3" Cat back Magna Flow
1000bhp half shafts
Stock gear (3.06), changed to posi
Custom 10" wide rear rims w/ Nitto DR 305/35/20's (I don't change for the track)

This is not a daily driver, but not a dedicated track car either. I drive to all of my events, weekends, to the track, etc. I see the track about 1/month. Im running 11.9-12.0 and considering the following upgrades:

NAG 1 Stage 4 tranny from Arrington
3000 stall converter
3.55 gear/rear end swap to dyna trac

Question about how the 3000 stall will affect the drive when just on the street? Will this be annoying? Is the upgrade worth it at the track? Im wondering if the tranny is "softening", which is why im considering a new NAG1 with converter.

Any input would be much appreciated...thanks!

I ran an FTI 3,200 stall converter in my 2010 R/T and was fairly happy with the results. However it did effect the driving of the vehicle, for one you slip back a bit on uphill grades so you need to be aware of that and two the slip makes driving it a bit annoying. I was able to greatly improve the drive ability of the car for everyday use by the addition of an MTCM (Mopar transmission control module). The MTCM locks up the converter in all the gears but first which makes things more pleasant to drive and has the added benefit of shifting your car right at 6,200 rpms when running WOT at the track.

I have some threads on this so I'll see if I can get you some links to them.

Here's a couple threads that you might find some useful information in. While they relate to the installation and workings of the MTCM it also relates to the behavior of the high stall converter which necessitated the MTCM install.

MTCM general info and install http://www.challengerforumz.com/showthread.php?t=94788

MTCM drag strip tested http://www.challengerforumz.com/showthread.php?t=94934

As for how much gain you will get, well I think I picked up a tenth or two but the car also felt a lot better coming off the line. I guess it just depends how much gain you need to feel it's worth it.

thanks 70barracuda...I was wondering if that would be the case in normal driving...granted, the one im looking at is at 3000...wondering if dropping down to 2800 would be better...either way, there will be change. Good tip on the tcm module, didn't realize it would have that affect on a larger stall...will check out the link...

From what I've heard those that have gone with a 2,800 rpm converter generally don't have any noticeable issues. Dodgeboy on here is running a 2,800 converter and is an active poster so perhaps he will have some input.

I know a few guys that race a lot and they are running a lot more stall speed, I know of a couple running around 3,800 plus. They also all run the MTCM and say that it is tolerable.

Places like FTI can restall your converter so if it's too high or low you can always change the stall for a nominal fee. Of course the restall isn't the big expense, it's the converter swap or at least the time invested in doing it.

thanks...ill see if Dodgeboy comments...

Ill check out FTI as well...I don't think I want to sacrifice the normal driveability part that much...everything's a trade off huh?

I've had zero issues as far as bad street manners with the Pro Torque 2800 Stall Converter, its perfect for street and track use and doesn't need a MTCM like the higher stall converters do to prevent slipping. I'm very happy with it and you won't even know its there, one thing that I always caution about high stall converters is that they tend to roll backwards on an uphill grade from a stop where the factory converters tend to give you a bit of forward motion.

You could get the Stall Converter from Speedlogix, thats where i bought mine, im happy with the 3.73 LSD, like the converter its a good street/track combo although you might be at the HP limit
For a Getrag before breakage becomes a problem. The 3.73's are great off the line at the track but are lacking a bit on the big end.

I run a 10" 3800RPM stall torque converter in my Nova and it drives just like stock around town until you mash the gas, then it revs up to 3800RPM and you're gone! I had mine custom built at UCC. I gave the guy all my vehicle specs...engine size, compression, cam specs, heads, intake, carb, ignition, trans, rear end gear, rear tires, vehicle weight, etc. Then he built one exactly for my car. Totally woke my car up, much more fun to drive now and leaves a lot harder off the line than before.

My vote is to go for a custom built unit over an off the shelf type unit. I'm not too keen on what companies are best for our Challengers, but it sounds like a lot of guys have good luck with FTI and ProTorque on here. I know the Chevy guys on the Nova forum like ATI, Coan, UCC, etc.
