legacy turn signal flasher types
Does anyone know the part number and location of the Turn Signal Flasher in the Challengers?
I checked the engine compartment fusebox. All items were labeled but none were the flasher. The rear fusebox has a bunch of stuff, but no key identifying any of the components.
I searched but did not find anything relevant to my question.
Best,
Foos,
JK is correct in that there is no such thing in the Challenger. Turn signal flasher (and rate) is controlled by the TIPM (Total Integrated Power Module) located in the left (passenger) front engine compartment (fuse box) and is incorporated into the existing TIPM electronics. This along with current monitoring makes the replacement of a "relay" or separate flasher module a non-issue, as it does not exist as such.
Also, the clicking noise heard in the cabin when you execute a turn signal is known as a "clicker" and is nothing but a dummy relay to give the driver a "legacy noise" during any turn signal/flasher operation(s).
If you wish to "avoid" the 2x flasher rate for bulbs out indication, you will have to incorporate a specific value load resistor into the rear harness to simulate the two
32CP 3157 lamps per rear side when using the replacement LED bulbs or bulb arrays.
I believe
Id10t (ForumZ member), used a 3 ohm/50W ballast resistor per rear side to duplicate the load (2.25a x 2 = 4.5a) for this application. I believe he had some for sale made up with leads and mounting hardware as well. Check with him.
Note: Many formerly seperate control relays/timers and modules are now incorporated into the TIPM for faster assembly and cost reduction (ie. Wiper delays, Interior light delays, etc.)
Also, be aware there are no
DOT Approved LED bulb replacements for 3x57 bulbs at this time. So, your vehicle may or may not pass State Inspection if the inspector looks closely and follows code. Your particular States passenger Vehicle Inspection Code is posted online for review.
