Pulled up beside a silver, late model Challenger at a stoplight today. Had a SRT AND a Hellcat badge on the rear spoiler. That didn't seem right. Last week I saw a black SRT that had personalized plates that indicated it was a Hellcat. It had a Hellcat hood and only the SRT badge on the rear spoiler. Looked up the plate online and confirmed it was a 2015 Hellcat.

Anyway, back to the poser. Looked up front, and no Hellcat hood, but it did have a Hellcat badge on the front fender in the correct location. Then I looked at the wheels. It didn't have either rims or tires indicative of a SRT, let alone a Hellcat. But the dead giveaway was the brakes calipers. No Brembos. Not even painted brake covers or painted calipers. Just plain, bare metal calipers.

To the average driver, who doesn't know a Mustang from a Camaro, they won't know the difference. To any knowledgable Challenger driver, however, it was a poor imitation. To each his own, I guess.
So, was it just an SXT or R/T?

I don't understand upbadging myself. Just be proud of what you have, whatever that may be. They're all cool in their own way. People should do what they want with their cars as they're paying for them, not me, but I just don't get it.

The Scat Pack has the same drivetrain as the SRT, so I can sort of see that, maybe. My car says Powered by SRT on the half covers too. But it has an R/T badge in the grill. Really confuses non-Challenger oriented people. Even so, it's a Scat Pack, just proud of that and have fun with it, otherwise you could just get the SRT and then you'd really have an SRT haha! I like the Bee on the fender, so do my kids, so it's staying haha!

I've actually taken my RT & Challenger badging off except for Hemi by hood scoops. I did however get rid of the chrome clads and replaced them with SRT8 Alcoa's. Looks MORE AGGRESSIVE.

It is confusing. Was at a car show a few weeks back and someone looked at my engine bay and asked "WTF is this thing?" an RT, an SRT or a Scat Pack?

I said "yes":D

Tough one to answer. Most people are against up-badging as a means to deceive; others will tell you it is your car - do what you want.
My question would be: what is your intent?

By the way: I had a 2012 RT Classic and the previous owner went with the classic look: hurst shifter with badge, and scatpack bee decals in the windows. After the Scatpacks came out, I had to explain a few times that I wasn't intending to deceive anyone.

Upbadging used to annoy me. Not so much any more since Dodge now does a lot of "water falling" parts from one model to another.

For example .... a year ago, if a Scat Pack or SRT owner put a Hellcat hood on their car it would have been upbadging. For 2019, Dodge is putting the "old" Hellcat hood on the Scat Packs.

So if the manufacturer isn't going to keep the model lines "pure," why should I care what any owner does??

I prefer the debaged look myself. I took all my badging off and stuck them on my toolchest. I’d probably do the same with a Hellcat.

I did get a Hellcat hat for as a gift for my birthday though and I own an RT.

I can confirm wearing the hat while driving the RT adds 25hp and shaves .5 sec in the 1/4 mile. Just think what would happen if I wore the hat AND upbadged!

The regular joe doesn't know what their looking at is right lol, and honestly, they can care less either way, so it seems redundant to try to impress clueless folks

Not a fan of up-badging.
I used to see a lot of Cobra badges on lower level Mustangs, never liked it.
Under badging is fine, some like to hide what they have to catch unsuspecting drivers unawares.
In my case, I'm guilty of over badging, celebrating the Scat Pack.
I could have gone all R/T, that would have been slight under badging.
But l like the rumble bee.
It's Dodge's fault anyhow, they're the ones who embroidered the bee on my seats and put the start up graphic in the instrument cluster.

Old hellcat style hood will be on the 2019 v6 Durango’s too. I don’t blame anyone though, it’s a sexy hood.

There’s a difference between swapping body parts and just buying a badge on Amazon and sticking it on. Swapping body parts is ok by me. It requires a little thought and investment on the owner’s part most of the time. Ordering a badge on Amazon and slapping it on though? Nah, you silly.
