Hello, I have a good one for you.

Recently I purchased a NAV Map upgrade from NAVTEQ. Upon trying to update the Map in the radio using the DVD my activation key was coming up "invalid". A new key was gien and still "invalid". After support from NAVTEQ the following was found. When in the NAV menu and selecting "database info", the VIN is blank! Because there is no VIN in the radio the upgrade cannot be completed.

NAVTEQ indicated at that point that they could not help me and to go to the dealer. Well I called the dealer and they indicated that they have never heard of this before. All he could suggest is an entire re-flash be done as if the car came right off the assembly line. He said even doing this may not fix the problem.

Could it mean that this radio was installed from another vehicle? If it was it should work? Is here a comm link from the radio that sends the broadcast of the VIN to all components? Could this be disconnected?

The radio is functional in every way. I was also able to complete the radio system update successfully.

The radio is the 730N RHR.

Any thoughts on this issue?

Well 730 RHR would be correct for 2011 model year. Did you buy the car new?

Hi Dodgeguy, no I bought it used last summer. It had 41k kms on it. Excellent condition. I do have the original window sticker and the 730N was a purchased option.
I am not sure then sorry.Hopefully somebody else has encountered this.

Hi
I found this on another forum, maby you should try it, sounds like it worked out for the guys who tried it. Posting the solution and the answer to it here:

"I got my vin # to show by turning the ignition to the on position not on the accessory position, the second click. The radio update went fine with the ignition on accessory but try the whole update in the "ON" position. Let me know if this worked for you. Yes I got the software to properly install and its all about the ignition being in the ON/RUN position. Turn the ignition to the ON/RUN position go to your GPS hit the MENU hard key then database info soft key. Is your vin there?"

"Thank you guys so much for posting this! I just got the update and everything went smooth until I had to do the Nav database update. I found I had to turn the jeep on enter the key, and start the process then I could turn it of but leave it with the ignition activated since I have the push button ignition. It's all updated now! Stupid directions from the nav company where wrong!"

"Thank you Jimmy, it did work!! Why the NAVTEQ people did not know how to do this is a mystery. In any case, I am now updated -- thanks."

Thank you Sweden!, this was the issue. For the Radio System upgrade you only need the "accessory" on for the MAP update your need RUN "ON". Once that was done the VIN showed up under database info tab. What did that famous philosopher say....DOH!!
