Hi folks!

I just bought my dream car - a 74 Challenger Rally. It has a 360. I need to fix the temperature gauge. I'm not much of a mechanic but I intend to learn. Can any one please tell me where the temperature sending unit is located on the engine?

Thanks,
GK

If I'm not mistaken, it's on the Intake Manifold just to the left(looking from the front of the car) of the Thermostat Housing.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm guessing the sensor is either in the intake manifold somewhere or possibly in one of the heads. On my old Chevy it's in the intake manifold screwed into one of the ports. Should be easy to remove, but might want to drain some of the anti-freeze out so it doesn't make a mess when you unscrew it.

I have an aftermarket gauge, but maybe the stock one is similar. The wire running out from the gauge to the sensor under the hood has some metal wrapping twirled around it the whole way, it's definitely different than say the oil pressure line or other electrical wiring under the hood. Might be a good way to trace it if you're not sure.

Make sure you put some teflon tape on the threads whenever you go to put it back in, helps keep things sealed up and prevents leaking, etc. You can probably use some sort of sealant as well but I always had good luck with teflon tape.
