Lots of posts on another forum about grinding it to make it fit. I have my half covers coming from Steve White so I will take pictures. My drivers side cover will make contact with my shaker so my modification maybe different.

 

Can you use a 392 vacuum hose? That's what I used on my 5.7L with the half covers. I mainly did that to tuck it out of the way and under the half cover rather than over top of the manifold.

Here is the line on the left side that is attached to some sort of Module or sensor. This is on the 2015's. Definitely doesn't have the line on top like the pre 15's. I will need to modify this sensor back out of the way if I want to fit the half cover.

 

Did you ever figure anything out for this? I just ordered my covers today and am trying to get an idea about what will have to be done. Did you have to Install a catch can to get the passenger side on?

 

The passenger side needed a catch can installed to work. The driver side, although already has the 392 hose connected from factory, still has the sensor which creates a problem. I was thinking about removing the bracket and letting it sit inside the groove under the cover but it might get too hot from intake.... Curious what other 15 owners are doing for the driver side with this sensor they installed from factory now.

That's cool, looks good with the cutout. I would just go that route. Didn't realize they had a new sensor up there. On my 2010 it's just a line routed across the intake. I just had to swap it for a 392 line so it went under the cover for a cleaner look.

For the 2015's that looks just fine. Good job!

I created a template off of his picture and cut away and used door edging to allow for a cleaner look. The shaker to CAI intake tube takes up allot of space but at least it looks clean and I got to use the driver's cover.

Any way i can get you to shoot me over a 1:1 of your template? Im in the same boat. A plus side is at least now you dont have to modify the badge on that side! Also how is the structural integrity on that side? Considering a HUGE chunk is gone, any worries about it breaking due to engine shake?

I didn't want to cut either one so I just detached the mounting bracket for the valve and zip tied it to the crossover line, then angled it under the cover. Both sides weren't trimmed at all so I'm happy with the final result. The one with the cut out doesn't even look noticeable at all though.

Also i ordered a 345 badge off ebay for $10 (for two). Once it comes ill throw it on the passenger side cover. No need for it on the driver side as you can see!

I thought about that but just trimmed it anyway. Sides with the shaker on there, you cant even see where i trimmed it at. But yours looks good. Nice and clean.

 

I did like post 23 and added a small cheap filter and ran under the cover and out the end.

 

Are the half covers snapping onto the original stud mounts for the full engine cover?

 

Yes they do but depending your exact engine will likely require rerouting some lines and maybe a bit of cutting. Not hard to do.

 

Personally I would not run any of the plastic covers (and I don't) on a Hemi.

 

Your opinion is based on what? Just personal preference?

 

I ask because I explored all the options of removing that awful 5.7 hood. 1) take if off and just leave it like it is. 2) modify and install the 392 1/2 covers, 3) there are a few companies that offer very angular chrome covers. 1) the engine looks too raw to me. 2) I consider this the best option, 3) these look too tricked up and not Hemi like. All the Billet stuff is nice and very expensive but they don't cover all the ness IMO.

 

Some people have customized their 5.7L covers with mesh, custom paint jobs, etc. as well. Mopar used to, maybe they still do, make a cover for the 5.7L that is Hemi Orange too. There are a lot of options. There are even sheet metal covers that only cover the coil packs and valve covers.

 

See I don't mind the look of the naked engine. Prefer it to those "goofy" IMO "Angular Chrome Covers". If you like the modified "Half Covers", buy them and enjoy them. I am upset because our intakes are plastic and I think they should be aluminum and look nice, and no I am not going Edelbrock or 6.1l Intake conversion but, I would like to find someone that "shaves" the stock 5.7l intake manifold and paints them. My patience is garbage any more.

The factory 5.7 engine cover holds a lot of heat. That's why the Pursuit (cop car) version Charger doesn't come with the cover. Here's what I did with a couple of mine.

 

I don't run the engine cover as well for heat reduction of the intake air temperature, I won't run half covers either I was just curious how they were secured. I prefer the look of the raw engine and once you get it clean it looks really good IMO, which is why we do the things we do to our cars in the first place, to us, it looks good, and that's all that matters. I've had the same thoughts regarding the plastic intake manifold but heat wise the aluminum holds heat in probably worse than the plastic, so Catch 22, looks is not everythng when it comes to the 5.7L HEMI. I did fully open up my 5.7L hood vents and that has made a noticeable difference with under hood heat, enough that I would venture to say better than the factory release.
